But at some point in the 4.x series they changed some general background stuff and that worked well for Windows 7, but is not covered by Windows 8 compatibility stuff. In very old 4.x versions the software was built in a way that works well with the Windows 8 compatibility layer for supporting software made for older Windows versions. It's known that SAM 4.9.8 will NOT work on Windows 8 due to changes in the software architecture that happened during the 4.x series. SAM 4.9.8 will work until forever, but will not receive support anymore, besides activation issues.
